Located 37 kilometers from Jaisalmer, the school stands as a testament to innovative architecture. Crafted by American architect Diana Kellog, it’s designed to brave scorching temperatures of up to 50 degrees Celsius. Constructed with locally available materials and guided by traditional techniques, the building remains refreshingly cool even in the desert’s searing heat.

Local artisans and craftsmen played a pivotal role in the school’s creation, minimizing its carbon footprint. The school embraces the essence of Jaisalmer’s culture and traditions, reflecting them in its sandstone walls and local flora. Solar panels provide the energy supply, while a smart rainwater harvesting system collects and stores water, showcasing a harmonious blend of modernity and sustainability.
Empowering Girls through Education:
Founded by Michael Daube, the brain behind the non-profit CITTA, the school aims to provide education and economic independence to marginalized girls. Since its inception in July 2021, the Rajkumari Ratnavati Girls High School has offered free education, along with essential provisions like books, uniforms, transport, and meals, truly nurturing its students’ growth.
Cultural Pride and Connection:
Beyond education, the school has woven local heritage into its fabric. The uniform, designed by renowned fashion icon Sabyasachi Mukherjee, reflects cultural pride and comfort. The sandstone walls feature etchings of native flora, celebrating the environment and fostering a sense of belonging.

In a region with low women’s literacy, the school stands as a beacon of change. Students are picked up by a school bus from villages such as Sam, Salkha, and Meghwalon ki Basti. While its capacity could reach 400, the school currently hosts 140 girls, aged 7.30 am to 1.30 pm, ensuring a nurturing learning environment.
