Why in News?

Telangana was the first state to adopt the Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission (SPMRM), which was established four years ago with the goal of boosting local economic development, improving basic services, and creating well-planned clusters.

Top two districts

Sangareddy and Kamareddy districts ranked top and second, respectively, among the 300 clusters where the initiative was being implemented across the country.

Other states

Tamil Nadu came in second and Gujarat came in third, respectively. The initiative was being executed in Telangana in 17 clusters (12 non-tribal and five tribal), at a cost of Rs.1,885.12 crore.

How farmers are being benefited?

“The establishment of a bulk milk chilling machine at Narayanakhed benefited around 3,500 farmers, with annual income ranging from 50,000 to 2.5 lakh depending on the number of milch animals.” K. Narasimhulu, joint commissioner of rural development, Rurban Mission, said, “A plastic waste treatment unit and millet processing unit are also coming constructed at Ryakal cluster.”
A. Pandari, a resident of Kamalapur village in Manoor mandal of Sangareddy district, was one of the success stories. He used to have only three milch cattle three years ago, but today he has five. In addition to his farming activities, his monthly revenue from this scheme has reached $14,000.

By expanding the number of milch cows, P. Machender Reddy of Kodur village earns a monthly income of 25,000 rupees.
These two farmers are among the 3,500 farmers in Narayanakhed who have benefited from the Rurban Mission’s bulk milk chilling plant.

“The fundamental goal of the Rurban Mission is to provide urban infrastructure in rural regions, with Telangana receiving the most points due to its great performance in Panchayat Raj and Rural Development.” Commissioner of PR and RD A. Sharath remarked, “Very practical and need-based works were taken up, accomplished with speed, and aided all sections,” adding that this has also boosted economic activity.
