What exactly is the PM-DevINE scheme?
The PM-DevINE scheme was introduced by the government, with an initial allocation of Rs 1,500 crore. It stands for “Prime Minister’s North-East Development Initiative.” The plan aims to fund infrastructure and social development projects in Mizoram, including one-of-a-kind ‘Bamboo Link Roads.’
Bamboo Connector Roads
Under the PM-DevINE initiative, Bamboo Link Roads will be built in Mizoram. These paths will aid in the transportation of bamboo from the woods. In the north-east, it will also aid in the management of paediatric and adult hematolymphoid (head and neck) tumors.
How will Mizoram receive support?
With the launch of two projects, Mizoram will gain the most:
Construction of a bamboo link road as a pilot project.At a cost of Rs 100 crore, roads will be built at various sites across the state in multiple districts. On the western side of Aizawl, Rs. 500 crore by-pass is being built.
Who will carry out the PM-DevINE plan?
The North Eastern Council (NEC) will execute the PM-DevINE scheme. This approach, however, is not a replacement for existing federal or state-run programmes.
The Scheme’s Importance
The PM-DevINE programme will fund “infrastructure and social development projects in accordance with PM GatiShakti.” Funding will be allocated based on perceived needs in the northeast. Youth and women would be able to engage in livelihood activities as a result of the scheme. It will also aid in the filling of gaps in many industries.
What additional projects are there?
Other projects that have been recognized include:
- In the North Eastern states, dedicated services for “Management of Pediatric and Adult Hematolymphoid Cancers” have been established.
- Project to Improve Livelihoods at NECTAR (Multi-State).
- In North East India, scientific organic agriculture is being promoted (Multi-State).
- In West Sikkim, there is a financing gap for a passenger ropeway system between Pelling and Sanga – Choeling.
- South Sikkim’s Dhapper to Bhaleydhunga eco-friendly cable car has a funding gap.
