In an extraordinary display of talent and versatility, India’s rising star, Shubman Gill, etched his name in cricket history by becoming the first player to score a century in Test matches, ODIs, T20Is, and the Indian Premier League (IPL) within a single calendar year. The young batter’s incredible milestone was achieved during an exhilarating clash against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
From Double Hundred to T20I Blitz: Gill’s Remarkable Journey
Gill’s remarkable year began with a dazzling double century in an ODI against New Zealand. He displayed his prowess with a scintillating knock of 208 runs off just 149 deliveries in Hyderabad, securing his place among the elite few who have achieved this feat.
Not content with just excelling in the 50-over format, Shubman unleashed his brilliance in T20Is as well. With his favorite ground as the backdrop, he smashed his maiden T20I century against New Zealand in Ahmedabad. Gill’s unbeaten 126 off 99 balls, with a staggering strike rate of 200, left spectators in awe of his batting prowess.
The young prodigy extended his century streak to Test cricket as well, once again showcasing his skill at the same ground against Australia. In a gritty performance, Gill scored 128 runs, solidifying his position as a force to be reckoned with in all formats.
Continuing his exceptional form, Gill has been a dominant force in the ongoing IPL. He has amassed an impressive 576 runs in 13 matches, boasting a batting average of 48.00 and a remarkable strike rate of 146.19. The batsman’s extraordinary tally includes four centuries and one hundred, further cementing his status as one of the
tournament’s standout performers.
In the clash against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Shubman Gill’s century, coupled with an impressive display by Mohammed Shami, propelled the Gujarat Titans to a resounding 34-run victory. This win not only secured their place in the playoffs but also marked their first-ever qualification in the IPL.
Batting first, the Gujarat Titans posted a formidable total of 188/9, courtesy of Gill’s scintillating IPL century and a valuable contribution of 47 runs by young batter Sai Sudharsan. However, it was Bhuvneshwar Kumar who stole the limelight with an exceptional five-wicket haul, conceding a mere 30 runs. Fazalhaq Farooqi, T Natarajan, and Marco Jansen also chipped in with crucial wickets.
In pursuit of 189 runs, the Sunrisers Hyderabad faced a tough challenge as GT’s opening bowlers wreaked havoc, dismissing Anmolpreet Singh and Abhishek Sharma early on. Despite Heinrich Klaasen’s valiant effort of 64 runs off 44 balls, the SRH batting lineup struggled to maintain momentum, eventually falling short with a total of 154/9.
The brilliant combined efforts of Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma, who claimed four wickets each, played a pivotal role in GT’s victory. Youngster Yash Dayal also contributed with a crucial scalp.
For his blistering knock of 101 runs off just 58 balls, Shubman Gill was deservedly awarded the “Player of the Match” accolade, further solidifying his reputation as a rising star in the world of cricket.
