World Cancer Day 2023: Cancer diagnosis is possible, just keep a few things in mind


Cancer is the world’s second leading cause of death, claiming nearly 10 million lives each year. Seven out of every ten cancer-related deaths occur in low- and middle-income nations. What is tragic is that early detection and treatment, frequent examinations, lifestyle adjustments, and prevention of nearly 40% of these fatalities globally.

Every year on February 4, World Cancer Day is commemorated to promote cancer prevention and increase public awareness of the disease. In order to lessen the effects of cancer, the commemoration attempts to bring together a variety of stakeholders, including governments, medical professionals, and the general people.

Here are some of the main early symptoms of cancer that you should not neglect-

Chronic pain problem

If there is continuous pain in any part of the body, then do not drag this pain for a long time with the help of pain killer, because it can be an early symptom of cancer. 
Persistent pain can also mean that the cancer is spreading within the body. The possibility of ovarian cancer or bone cancer behind such pain cannot be ruled out. 
Therefore, do not remove any kind of pain by taking pain killer for more than two-three days and take suggestions from a good doctor.

Feeling of lump in any part of the body

If any small or big lump is felt in any particular part of the body, then immediately show it to the doctor. Because according to research reports, most of the lumps can be cancer. These lumps can be seen in any part of the body. For example, if it is shown to a cancer specialist in time in breast, armpit, leg joints, then it can also be treated in time. These lumps can often be painless too, so do not ignore it. After the case worsens, its treatment becomes difficult.

Persistent cough

Coughing due to the weather, allergies, or environment is normal. However, if you have a persistent cough, you should be cautious. If you have chest pain and a persistent cough, it could be a sign of cancer. Apart from that, coughing up blood can be a serious sign. A persistent cough can be a sign of lung or thyroid cancer.

Sustained weight loss

Sometimes it is natural to lose weight due to negligence of eating and drinking, dieting or illness, which can be cured with medicines, but if the weight is decreasing continuously then it is not a good situation. In some circumstances it can be cancer, it would be better to get treatment from a specialist. It can be treated in time.

Bleeding

Bleeding can also be one of the main symptoms of cancer. Especially if women are bleeding after menopause, then it can be a serious problem. Apart from this, bleeding from stool and urine, bleeding from the gums or mouth can also be a symptom of cancer.

Theme of World Cancer Day

The topic of World Cancer Day was chosen to be “Close The Care Gap” for the years 2022, 2023, and 2024. The goal of this multi-year effort is to highlight how healthcare injustices impact cancer patients, mobilise for action, and put pressure on those in positions of authority to address this long-standing epidemic.
