Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi Urged People to Read About Padma Awardees of 2023

Mann Ki Baat, first broadcast on October 3, 2014, is an Indian radio programme in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses citizens on a variety of national issues and ideas. Because television is not yet widely available in India, particularly in remote rural areas, All India Radio (AIR) was chosen as the official medium to reach the population.

On 29 January, PM Modi addressed the 97th Edition and the first ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio programme of 2023, in which he urged citizens of the country to read about the lives and stories of people who have received the prestigious ‘Padma’ Award. On the 74th Republic Day, Modi emphasised that a large number of Padma awardees were from tribal communities or people associated with tribal society.

“Padma awards have been given to tribal painters, musicians, farmers, and artisans. I strongly encourage all citizens to read their inspiring stories. Many dignitaries who have worked on tribal languages such as Toto, Ho, Kui, Kuvi, and Manda have received these awards,” PM Modi said during the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio programme.

“Tribal life is distinct from city life, with its own set of difficulties. Regardless, tribal societies are always eager to preserve their traditions,” he said.

PM Modi went on to say that it is a source of pride for all of us that the world is now aware of them. He also emphasised the efforts of the people of the Northeast, who have received Padma awards for their efforts to preserve their culture.

Padma Awards

Padma Awards, the highest civilian honours in India, are given in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri.
On Republic Day each year, awards are given in a variety of disciplines and fields of activity, including art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, and civil service.

The ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service, the ‘Padma Bhushan’ is awarded for distinguished service of high order, and the ‘Padma Shri’ is awarded for distinguished service in any field.

PM Modi praised Chhattisgarh’s Millet Café on his 97th Mann ki Baat episode

On his 97th Mann ki Baar episode, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised A Millet Cafe near Natwar School in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh. It is a one-of-a-kind cafe that serves delicious millet-based dishes that combine nutrition and flavour. It is the first millet cafe run by women in the state. It is a matter of pride that Modi praised the initiative to promote millet in his radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’.
