WhatsApp new feature: Communities, In-Chat Polls, And More

WhatsApp is getting new features! Communities will begin rolling out to WhatsApp users today and will be available to everyone over the next few months, according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

WhatsApp has more features in store for users besides Communities. WhatsApp describes Communities as a “major update to how people will be able to connect on WhatsApp in the groups that matter to them.”

Introducing Communities on WhatsApp

“Communities like neighborhoods, parents at a school, and workplaces can now connect multiple groups together under one umbrella to organize group conversations on WhatsApp,” a press release seen by Indiatimes stated.

“Today we’re launching Communities on WhatsApp. It makes groups better by enabling sub-groups, multiple threads, announcement channels, and more. We’re also rolling out polls and 32-person video calling too. All secured by end-to-end encryption so your messages stay private,” said Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO, Meta.

WhatsApp users can access Communities by tapping on the new Communities tab at the top of their chats on Android and at the bottom on iOS. Users can then create
new Communities or join existing ones.

Users can switch between available groups within a community, and administrators can send updates to everyone in the community. WhatsApp claims that Communities can raise the bar for how businesses communicate, adding that this “level of privacy and security is unrivalled anywhere else.”

Other features added to WhatsApp

Three more features were added to WhatsApp, including the ability to create in-chat polls, video calling for up to 32 people, and groups with up to 1024 users. The company claims that these features will be especially useful within Communities.

So far, WhatsApp has worked with 50 organisations in 15 countries to see how Communities can help organisations reach their goals.
