PM Modi Announces 14,500 ‘PM Shri’ Schools Across India on Teachers Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the establishment of 14,500 PM Shri schools across India on National Teacher’s Day. This will include the construction of new schools as well as the renovation of existing ones. According to the Prime Minister, these will become “model schools” that “encapsulate the full spirit of NEP.” These schools were first announced at the NEP conference in June.

The announcement was made by the Prime Minister while interacting with the winners of the National Awards for Teachers in New Delhi. The Prime Minister paid tribute to Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan in his address to the gathering. He also reminded the teachers how important it is to be recognised by the current President of India, who is also a teacher and has taught in remote areas of Odisha.

The National Education Policy has transformed the education sector in recent years. I am certain that the PM-SHRI schools will further benefit lakhs of students across India in the spirit of NEP, said the PM.

The PM-SHRI schools will provide education in a modern, transformational, and holistic manner. The emphasis will be on discovery-oriented, learning-centered teaching. According to the PM, the emphasis will also be on modern infrastructure, such as cutting-edge technology, smart classrooms, sports, and other activities.

These schools, as previously stated by the Minister of Education, will be “fully equipped to prepare students for the future.” These cutting-edge schools will serve as the NEP 2020 laboratory.” Dharmendra Pradhan, the Education Minister, had earlier sought suggestions and feedback from all states/UTs and the entire education ecosystem in order to create a futuristic benchmark model in the form of PM Shri schools.

PM SHRI Schools (PM ScHools for Rising India) will provide leadership in their respective regions in providing high-quality education in an equitable, inclusive and joyful school environment that takes care of the diverse background, multilingual needs, and different academic abilities of children and makes them active participants in their own learning process as per the vision of NEP 2020.
