On the occasion of India’s 75th Independence Day, the Indian Railways’ South East Central Railway (SECR) operated the Super Vasuki train, touted as the longest and heaviest freight train in India, with 295 loaded wagons. The freight train was operated on August 15, as part of the government’s Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration.
“To mark the beginning of Amrit Kaal, SECR formed and ran Super Vasuki, five loaded train long haul on 15th Aug 2022 as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav Celebration,” the official statement by South western railway read.

The 3.5 km long train with 295 loaded wagons and powered by 5 locomotives carrying a total load of about 27,000 tons of coal is the highest volume of fuel ever transported by Indian Railways in a single train arrangement.
According to the report, the total amount of coal transported by this train is enough to power the 3,000 MW power plant in one day, more than three times the capacity of the current railway to transport approximately 9,000 tons of coal. a trip.
