Arjun Babuta, a Lovely Professional University (LPU) student, won the international gold medal in the 10m air rifle final at a shooting world cup in Korea. The MA student in journalism and mass communication represented India and won gold on the first day. He outperformed Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Lucas Kozeniesky of the United States in a one-sided competition, winning 17-9, according to the varsity.

What are the events organized?

The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) has organised shooting competitions in rifle, pistol, and shotgun in Changwon, Korea, which will continue until July 21. The student shooter won the event, giving the country its first gold medal at the ongoing world cup. Arjun, who is from Mohali in Punjab, had previously topped the ranking match with 261.1 points to qualify for the gold medal match.

No. of athletes participating

Around 450 athletes from 43 countries compete in the world cup's 30 events. It will allow athletes to compete not only for medals, but also for "World Ranking" points. "It appears that an LPU student is on the verge of capturing another ISSF's highest award "the Blue Cross" for the country, as has previously been done by the country's ace shooter, Abhinav Bindra," said the varsity.

Rashmi Mittal, Pro Chancellor of LPU, congratulated the winning student and his LPU mentors. She also stated that students at LPU are properly guided, trained, and skilled based on their talents and global needs. That is why LPU students continue to make headlines in a variety of fields, including research, innovation, entrepreneurship, cultural activities, placements, social services, and sports.

The ISSF, which was founded 115 years ago (in 1907), is the governing body of Olympic shooting events in rifle, pistol, and shotgun disciplines, as well as several non-Olympic shooting sport events. It currently has over 150 national shooting federations from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania as members.
