India gifted Nepal 75 ambulances and 17 school buses on July 3. India presented the gift to Nepal as part of the two countries’ “strong and long-standing” development partnership and efforts to help Nepal strengthen its infrastructure in the health and education sectors. In the presence of Nepal’s Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, Devendra Poudel, the newly-appointed Ambassador of India, Naveen Srivastava, handed over the keys to the vehicles.

The Indian Embassy said that the gift of 75 ambulances also marks 75 years of India’s independence. “The gifting of ambulances and school buses is part of the strong development partnership between the two countries,” Srivastava said. He said that this initiative has been one of the long-standing traditions of the Government of India under the Nepal-India Development Partnership Program to boost the efforts of the Government of Nepal to strengthen its infrastructure in health and education.
Nepal thanks India for helping
Poudel praised India’s various ongoing development projects in Nepal and stated that this initiative will continue to strengthen people-to-people ties and improve bilateral relations.
According to the Indian Embassy, 75 ambulances and 17 school buses will be distributed to various government departments and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in the fields of health and education across Nepal.
India helped Nepal even during Corona
India gifted 39 ventilators-equipped ambulances in 2021 as part of its efforts to help Nepal deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. Similarly, in 2020, India gifted 41 ambulances and six school buses to Nepal to mark the 151st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
