On June 14, Switch Mobility, the electric vehicle branch of commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland, revealed the EiV12, a new electric bus. The company plans to deploy this electric bus as public transportation, and it is in talks with several state governments about adopting the new vehicle.
The EiV12 electric bus will be available in two models, each with a range of 100 to 300 kilometres on a single charge. Each of these electric buses will cost roughly 70 lakh, with certain variations costing up to one crore.
EiV12 buses has ‘Switch iON’ linked technology
The EiV12 electric bus is built on the same EV architecture as the European Switch e1 bus, which was just released. It also has ‘Switch iON’ linked technology, which allows for remote, real-time diagnostics and monitoring, as well as digital battery management capabilities.

Buses are developed with lithium ion batteries to suit indian climate
The innovative lithium-ion modular batteries in the Switch EiV12 electric bus were developed specifically for the Indian market and climatic circumstances. According to the manufacturer, these batteries will allow the bus to go up to 500 kilometres per day and will offer twin gun quick charging.
Avoided over 5000 tonnes of CO2
Switch Mobility claims that its current EV bus fleet in India has logged over 8 million kilometres and avoided over 5000 tonnes of CO2. This is the same as planting almost 30,000 trees.
