Toll rates for a specific route will be estimated using the new Google Maps tool. The function is available on approximately 2,000 toll highways in the United States, India, Japan, and Indonesia, according to the company. The feature is already available in the company’s iOS and Android apps, and it plans to expand it to more countries “soon.”

Users can now estimate the toll charges before the trip begins

In April, Google announced that toll pricing would be displayed on Maps in India, the United States, Japan, and Indonesia, allowing users to choose between toll roads and conventional highways.

Thanks to new toll pricing information from local tolling authorities, users can now estimate the projected toll charge to their destination even before the trip begins. The toll cost provided by Google is based on “reliable information from local tolling authorities,” according to Google.

Total toll price to the destination will be estimated by Google Maps

The total toll price to your destination will be estimated by Google Maps based on factors like the cost of using a toll pass or other payment methods, the day of the week, and how much the toll is expected to cost at the specific time the user will cross it,” the Mountain View, California-based company explained.

When a toll-free route is available, Google Maps will display it alongside toll-paying options for those who want to explore alternative routes. “A simple press on the three dots in the upper right corner of the instructions in Google Maps will enable users to pick route alternatives and’skip tolls,’ if they wish to avoid toll routes entirely,” according to the company.
