Goal of the application is to reduce lightning-related deaths and property damage

The goal of using the mobile application is to reduce lightning-related deaths and property damage. The app tracks lightning strikes across India and sends users a GPS notification if lightning strikes within 20 and 40 kilometres of them. Furthermore, the Damini App sends out lightning strike warnings one or two hours in advance.

The app gathers information from sensors placed throughout the city. The app uses GPS location to show the affected area’s directional position 15 minutes before lightning strikes.

The Damini app also includes detailed information on the likelihood of lightning, scientific information on lightning, and what citizens should do to avoid being struck by lightning.

“If a user enters their location into the app and there is a chance of strong winds or thunderstorms in the area, he will see the information.” As a result of this information, farmers and citizens can be notified in a timely manner, potentially saving lives,” Dr. Kalyankar explained. The ‘Damini Lightning Alert’ app is available for download from the Google Play Store.
