• Despite staying out of the spotlight and “quietly building his empire”
• Adani Group now a national behemoth in the world’s sixth-largest economy
TIME magazine has named industrialist Gautam Adani, Supreme Court lawyer Karuna Nundy, and Kashmiri human rights activist Khurram Parvez among the world’s 100 most influential people in 2022.
Overview
Along with Apple CEO Tim Cook and American talk show host Oprah Winfrey, Adani has been named a Titan. According to TIME magazine, India is experiencing “an unprecedented concentration of economic and political power that reinforces one another,” with Adani serving as the “poster boy” for the first.
Even though Gautam Adani stays out of the spotlight, “quietly building his empire,” the Adani Group is now a national behemoth in the world’s sixth-largest economy, according to the magazine.
Nundy and Parvez joined Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in the Leaders category.
Karuna Nundy is “not only a lawyer, but also a public activist who ably—and bravely—uses her voice both inside and outside the courtroom to bring about change,” according to the magazine.
Nundy, a strong advocate for women’s rights, has fought for antirape legislation reform and workplace sexual harassment cases.
“Karuna also goes to great lengths to explain legal issues to the media and the general public. She can easily and deftly discuss the law. By doing so she creates an accessible discourse about rights in a time when those rights are at risk,” TIME magazine stated.
