Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Civil Aviation Minister, stated that India is working to make its airports carbon-neutral in the future. On Twitter, the Union Minister stated that efforts are being made to make airports across the country carbon neutral in the near future so that India can emerge as a responsible player in the international civil aviation industry.
Scindia said at the International Civil Aviation Organization’s headquarters in Montreal that the way India’s civil aviation industry has recovered from the Covid-19 pandemic with all protocols in place demonstrates its resilience and determination. With a solid and comprehensive plan for the future, he is confident that his ministry will soon reach new heights.
The Civil Aviation Ministry recently announced that the AAI has begun work on expanding Trichy Airport
The work includes the construction of a new integrated passenger terminal building, an air traffic control tower, a new apron, and upgrades to airside facilities to accommodate the airport’s growing passenger traffic and reduce congestion during peak hours.
The new terminal building, which is being built at a cost of Rs 951.28 crore, has been designed to handle 2900 passengers during peak hours, according to the ministry.The terminal will have 48 check-in counters and 10 boarding bridges, and it will be an energy-efficient building with sustainable features.
The project also includes a new apron, associated taxiways, and an isolation bay to prepare Trichy Airport for the Multiple Apron Ramp System. Aside from that, the expansion project includes the construction of a Control Room, Terminal RADAR, supporting Equipment Rooms, RADAR simulation, Automation facilities, VHF, AAI offices, and Meteorological offices.
A 4-lane elevated access road connecting the Terminal Building to the city is also part of the airport expansion. According to the ministry, more than 75% of the construction work for the terminal building has been completed. The project will be completed by April 2023, according to the ministry.
