To file a complaint if you go to Theni’s chinnamanur police station know that you don’t have to reach the pinnacle of boredom while waiting for your turn while the cops go about their business.
You can immerse yourself in fantasy worlds or broaden your horizons by perusing a collection of 700 books in a variety of genres.
The library put up at the police station, the initiative of station house officer and inspector P Sekar, intends to serve the community that lacks such a facility.
With roughly 15 schools nearby, including eight higher secondary schools, Sekar thinks that the library, which also offers literature for competitive exams, would be able to fill the void left by the lack of coaching centers.
However, the larger goal is to alter the public’s view of what a police station is
“Students and aspirants should see a police station not only as a location to file complaints and deal with suspects, but also as a safe haven.
It is also the police’s responsibility to guide young minds in the proper way, which can be accomplished by allowing them to read inspiring and worthwhile novels “Sekar said.
Sekar got the idea for the library after noticing a small room on the station grounds that was being used to store unneeded stuff. He told SP Dongare Pravin Umesh about his desire to turn it into a library, and he got the go-ahead.
Now, the room can accommodate 20 people at a time, and has a host of periodicals and newspapers, apart from the books. Most of the books are donated by volunteers. “Public can avail of the facility from 8 am to 9 pm every day. Station visitors, as well as the general public, can read the books and newspapers without getting any permission from the police,” he added. Sekar said the books for various competitive examinations in the library have already drawn the attention of many. The library, however, does not yet allow the public to take the books home. Currently, SSI Kumaran oversees the facility.
Apart from the books, the space can now accommodate 20 people at a time and has a variety of periodicals and newspapers. Volunteers provide the majority of the books.
Every day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., the public can use the facilities
Visitors to the station, as well as the general public, are free to read the books and newspapers without authorization from the police “Added he. Every day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., the public can use the facilities
Many people have already shown interest in the library’s literature for various competitive examinations, according to Sekar. The public, on the other hand, is not yet permitted to take books home from the library. SSI Kumaran is currently in charge of the institution.
