

Chief Minister MK Stalin awarded Marlima Muralitharan of Villupuram with the Best Transgender Award 2022, which comes with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.
Marlima of Gingee received the award from the Social Welfare and Women Empowerment department for her exceptional work for the upliftment of the third gender over the past 25 years.
On hand were Minister P Geetha Jeevan of the Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department, Chief Secretary V Irai Anbu, and officials from other departments

Marlima Muralitharan said, ” I completed my undergraduation in Civil Engineering in 1995 and started my work when transgenders were battling to acquire recognised. Now I own and operate a construction-relations office in Gingee.
I’ve helped 70 transgender people who didn’t want to beg or participate in the flesh trade so far.”
“I paid for fruit juice stores, cows, goats, and hens for eight transpeople with my own money. I also helped many people find jobs, and I helped three transpeople from Gingee, Kandachipuram, and Tiruvannamalai build their own homes by providing free plans and arranging finances for the building.
This award, I believe, is an acknowledgment of my efforts and will inspire me to do more “Marlima added.
