CM URBAN SLUM HEALTH SCHEME: GOVERNMENT TAKING HEALTHCARE TO THE DOORS, A BOON FOR THE URBAN POPULATION




HIGHLIGHTS-

  • The Chhattisgarh government has begun implementing the Mukhyamantri Slum Health Scheme.
  • Under this initiative, Mobile Medical Units visit slum areas to offer facilities free of cost.
  • The scheme will offer free health consultation, check-ups, treatment, and medicines to the people living in the slum area.
The lack of basic utilities in urban slum regions harms the health of those residing there. The government is dedicated to improving the health of people living in slum neighborhoods. The government offers various health-related programs to provide them with a better living. In the same line, The Chhattisgarh government has begun implementing the Mukhyamantri Slum Health Scheme to improve the health of the residents of these areas.

Under this scheme, A Mobile Medical Unit facility has been established for the treatment and health check-up of citizens living in slum regions. Citizens in slum regions will no longer have to go for medical treatment or assessment to other cities or places. The slum neighborhoods will be served to door by this mobile medical unit.

Objectives of CM Urban Slum Health Scheme

  • To provide free health consultation, check-ups, treatment, and medicines to the people living in the slum area.
  • To inform about family planning methods by personal dialogue and other ways.
  • To make the family planning resources available.
  • Free ANC/PNC tests are to be provided to the women living in slum areas.
  • To refer the individuals to district hospitals/higher health centers if they find out serious diseases during a health check-up.
  • To provide health-related information through health education in the slum area.
  • To provide information about the prevention measures.
  • To form strategies for cleanliness, drinkable water supply, disease carrier management, and other public health-related activities.

Mobile Medical Units to provide service door to door

Under this initiative, 60 Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) will be used. The MMUs will be going to the selected locations regularly on a scheduled day. The state’s Urban Development Administration’s scheme is gaining traction, with positive feedback and positive outcomes.

“Helped in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals”

Over 20,500 health camps have been set up in and around urban slums as part of the program. “The scheme has assisted Chhattisgarh in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, with the state moving from the ‘Aspirant’ category with a score of 42 on the Good Health and Well-Being indices to the ‘Performer’ category with a score of 60”, says CM Baghel. Further, he said, A healthy productive community helps in nation-building. We need to be equally sensitive to the circumstances of the underprivileged population.

Dai-didi clinic

As a value-added to the scheme, a ‘Dai-Didi (mother-sister) clinic’ with only female doctors and paramedical staff is deployed in the municipal limits of Raipur, Bilaspur, and Bhilai.
