UNION AGRICULTURE MINISTER ADDRESSES 4TH NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON AGRICULTURE FOR THE SUMMER CAMPAIGN 2021-22

What is in the News?

The Union Agriculture Minister spoke at the fourth National Conference on Agriculture for the Summer Campaign recently. The Zaid conference is another name for the event. Summer crops are the subject of the conference.

Concerning the Conference

  • The crop performance was discussed at the conference. It also fixed the crop-based objectives. After discussing with state governments, the goals were set.
  • Decisions on how to use technology to enhance agricultural production were made during the summit.
  • The conference’s main focus was on enhancing pulse and oil seed production.
  • For greater summer crop output, the states were advised to use better and new grade seeds.
  • The conference was also attended by officials from agricultural unions and self-help groups. They were asked to produce fertilizer utilization estimates. It was also recommended that they limit their use of DAP fertilizers and increase their use of NPK fertilizers.
  • ATMA (Agricultural Technology Management Agency) and Krishi Vigyan Kendra have been tasked with collaborating to give the necessary training to small and marginal farmers.
  • The state governments were asked to offer organic agricultural certification for the entire area or block. Farmers won’t have to apply for organic agricultural certificates individually this way.

Announcements made during the conference

The Department of Fertilizers made the following announcements during the conference:
Total urea availability is 255.28 LMT, DAP is 81.24 LMT, MOP is 18.5 LMT, and NPKS is 76.87 LMT.

Other decisions made in the meeting

Through the NFSM’s Targeted Rice Fallow Area sub-component, pulses and oil seeds will be encouraged. They will also be promoted as an intercrop in the oil palm and sugarcane industries.

During the conference, goals were set

Pulses were planted on a total of 21.05 lakh hectares. Oil seeds will be planted on 13.78 lakh hectares of land. 17.89 lakh hectares of land would be planted with nutri – grains.

Current Scenario

According to the 4th Advanced Estimates, India produced 3086.47 tonnes of food grains during 2020 to 21. 257 lakh tonnes of pulses and 361 lakh tonnes of oil seeds were produced in the same year. Cotton was produced in a total of 353.84 lakh bales. The horticulture industry had performed better than the agricultural industry.
