Ketan Mehta, a filmmaker, will direct a biopic about his aunt Usha Mehta, a freedom fighter. Anubhav Sinha’s production company, Benaras Mediaworks, will produce the film titled Freedom Radio.
During the Quit Indian Movement in 1942, Usha Mehta, a freedom fighter, started a secret radio station. Messages from Mahatma Gandhi and other prominent Indian leaders were broadcast on the radio.
“Developing this story has been pure joy,” Ketan Mehta said in a statement about making the biopic. Sifting through her (Usha Mehta’s) personal diaries and digging into my own memories has been an important part of the job.”
Freedom Radio, according to Mehta, is a film about the spirit of liberty
It will be set in the pre-independence era and will tell the story of how the country’s youth rallied around top leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Vallabhbhai Patel, and Jawaharlal Nehru when the British imprisoned them.
