AirAsia India has installed a taxibot at the Bengaluru international airport, which is a vehicle that helps a plane to move between parking stand and runway without running engines, said on June 10. The airline had on November 23 ,2021 started using taxibot to tow two modified A320 planes at the Delhi international airport.
“AirAsia India today flagged off taxibot operations at Bengaluru international airport, following successful trials and subsequent implementation at Delhi international airport,” according to a statement from the airline.
During taxibot operation aircraft engine remain shut
Taxibot is a semi-robotic towbarless aircraft movement equipment that tows an aircraft from the terminal gate to the take-off point (taxi-out phase) and then returns the aircraft to the gate after landing (taxi-in phase). When the taxibot is in operation, the aircraft engines remain shut.
Moving towards cleaner and greener ecosystem
AirAsia India has tied up with KSU Aviation, the exclusive operator of the taxibot in India. “Taxibot leverages technology to drive differentiation and efficiency in operations, paving the way forward for a cleaner and greener ecosystem, in addition to driving the adoption of sustainable aviation.” Sunil Bhaskaran, MD and CEO of AirAsia India, stated
Hari Marar, MD and CEO of Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), stated, “Environmental sustainability has been at the heart of BIAL’s sustainability initiatives, along with the vision of leaving a cleaner and better world for our future generations.”
Improves fuel efficiency and predicts maintenance and services
TaxiBot is proclaimed as the green revolution in airplane taxiing because it improves fuel efficiency and predicts maintenance and services. AirAsia India, as a Tata Group company, is celebrating Tata
Sustainability Month (TSM) this June, with the goal of creating a group-wide sustainability culture that aligns with the airline’s sustainability goals.
