During the monsoon season, the government plans to expand coal stockpiles at power plants to 40 million tonne (mt), according to Union Power Minister R. K. Singh.
The minister stated that there are currently 22.9 MT of reserves at the power plants.
Current coal stock is around 22.9 mt
“Our reserve stock at power plants was 24 mt on April 1. On April 30, it dropped to 19 mt, and on May 15, it dropped to 15 mt. However, due to coal imports it has risen to around 22.9 mt once again” , in response to a question about coal availability, the Minister stated.
Govt. plans to boost the coal buffer stock during the upcoming rainy season
He said yes when asked if the government plans to boost the coal buffer stock in anticipation of production and supply challenges during the upcoming rainy season.
“Every year during the rainy season, this happens.” Domestic coal production is decreasing. So we’re getting ready for that. Because of the lower temperatures during the monsoon season (July-September), daily demand will fall to 2.1 mt.
“At the same time, domestic coal supply will be reduced. As a result, the gap will widen. That is why this import is taking place. I believe the buffer should be in the 40-MT range “said the Minister.
