Puducherry to get bio-pharma park, aims to attracts more investments

Industries Secretary P. Jawahar said on October 14 that the government is in the process of establishing a bio-pharma park in Puducherry.

In an address to the Confederation of Indian Industry’s MSME business summit, he stated that the Drugs Control team under the Health Department was preparing a detailed project report to establish a bio-pharma park.

The park’s construction was part of the process of attracting more investment. He stated that the government has begun the process of utilising previously acquired land to establish a Special Economic Zone at Sedarapet.

“The establishment of the park is linked to the proper utilisation of the land acquired for SEZ. We are expecting clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs to utilise the land for industrial activity very soon,” he said.

In a few days, the government expected the MHA to approve the draught bill for Ease of Doing Business.

He also stated that the administration was working on ways to include Puducherry in the Centre’s Capital Investment Scheme in order to obtain funding for major infrastructure projects such as airport runway expansion.

Customs clearance was required before beginning a trial run of container operations from the port. The government also intends to approach the Centre for assistance in providing additional facilities at the port, according to the secretary. Mr Jawahar stated that the MSME sector, as one of the largest employers, was the backbone of the Puducherry economy.
