A lab that will help in the diagnosis of severe genetic disorders will be set up in Raipur. On the occasion of World Anatomy Day, a Cytogenetic lab was established at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Raipur, which is claimed to be the first of its kind in government medical colleges in Chhattisgarh.
According to the release, the new lab will aid in the diagnosis of trisomy abnormalities such as Down syndrome, Patau syndrome, and other severe disorders during prenatal genetic and chromosome disorder diagnosis.
Director AIIMs-R Prof. (Dr.) Nitin M Nagarkar said there was a need to diagnose prenatal genetic and chromosome disorders in Chhattisgarh. The newly established Cytogenetic lab equipped with a fish lab, PCR, and culture lab will certainly help patients get expert consultation at Raipur. Now, they don’t need to go to metro cities for lab tests.
Prenatal genetic testing gives parents-to-be information about whether their fetus has certain genetic disorders. chromosomal disorder, any syndrome characterized by malformations or malfunctions in any of the body’s systems, and caused by abnormal chromosome number or constitution.
