Who is IPS officer Laxmi Singh, UP’s first female Police Commissioner?



The Uttar Pradesh government appointed new Police Commissioners for the three newly formed commissionerates on November 28 midnight, and also transferred the Police Commissioners of Noida and Varanasi. The state government has appointed Laxmi Singh, the Inspector-General of Police (IG), Lucknow range, as the state’s first female Police Commissioner, with responsibility for Noida.

Alok Singh, who has been assigned to the Director General of Police (DGP) headquarters in Lucknow, will be replaced by her. Satish Ganesh, the Varanasi Police Commissioner, has been transferred to the DGP headquarters, and Ashok Mutha Jain, the Additional Director General of Police (ADG), has taken his place.

Laxmi Singh Becomes First Woman CP In UP:

Ajay Mishra, IG , will be the first Police Commissioner of Ghaziabad, while Preetinder Singh, IG (Prisons), will be the first Police Commissioner of Agra. Ramit Sharma, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Bareilly, has been appointed as the first Police Commissioner of Prayagraj, while IG (Home) Tarun Gaba has been appointed as the IG, Lucknow range.

Prashant Verma, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Ayodhya, will take over as Bahraich Superintendent of Police (SP), replacing Keshav Kumar, who will become Additional Police Commissioner in Agra. Muniraj, the SSP of Ghaziabad, will be the new SSP of Ayodhya. Shailesh Pandey, SSP of Prayagraj, will transfer to Mathura in the same capacity, replacing Abhishek Yadav as SP (Intelligence). Prabhakar Chaudhary, an Agra SSP, has been appointed Commandant of the Sitapur Pradeshik Armed Constabulary.

About first female Police Commissioner of UP

48 year old Laxmi Singh, is an Inspector General of Police in the Lucknow range. According to official records, she was the first woman IPS topper (33rd overall) in the UPSC-held exams and was named the best probationer at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad.

During her training, she was also given the PM’s silver bation and the home minister’s pistol. She began her career as a senior superintendent of police in 2004, after obtaining a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering degree. In 2013, she was promoted to deputy IG, and in 2018, she was promoted to IG.

Laxmi Singh has previously served as the IG/DIG of the Special Task Force (STF) in Gautam Buddh Nagar from January 1, 2018 to March 5, 2018. She was then appointed IG of the Meerut Police Training School from March 2018 to May 26, 2020, before being promoted to IG Range Lucknow.

According to a senior official who has worked with her, she keeps a personal diary of criminal incidents that occur in her jurisdiction.

Among other awards, Laxmi Singh has received the Police Medal in 2016, UP DGP’s silver and gold medals in 2020 and 2021, respectively. She was last year honoured with the UP Chief Minister’s excellence in service medal.
