India takes comprehensive steps to eradicate tuberculosis, PM Modi launches initiatives



Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a range of initiatives to fight against tuberculosis. He spoke at the One World TB Summit and highlighted India’s ideology of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbkam,” which means “one world, one family.” PM Modi stated that this idea is providing the world with comprehensive vision and solutions. He also noted that India has been working hard to eliminate tuberculosis, and its efforts should be known to the whole world.

PM Modi explained that India’s ideology of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbkam” reflects India’s image. This idea is giving the modern world an integrated vision and solutions. PM Modi further stated that as G20 president, India chose the theme of “One Family, One World, One Future” based on such beliefs. India is also promoting the vision of “One Earth, One Health” in the world. PM Modi emphasized that India is realizing global resolutions with the One World TB Summit.

India aims to eliminate tuberculosis by 2025

PM Modi announced that India’s resolution is to eliminate tuberculosis by 2025, which is five years ahead of the global target of 2030. PM Modi stated that India has been working against tuberculosis since 2014, and the approach with which India worked against the disease is “incredible.”

New model in the global fight against TB

PM Modi highlighted that India’s efforts to fight against tuberculosis should be known to the whole world because it’s a new model in the global fight against TB. India has united in this fight against TB on many fronts, such as public participation, special campaigns for nutrition, new strategies for treatment, intensive use of technology, and promoting good health through campaigns like Khelo India and Yoga.

Unique campaign and public participation to fight TB

The Prime Minister said that India launched a unique campaign to fight tuberculosis, calling upon the people of the country to make “Ni-kshay Mitra” to join the campaign of TB-free India. After the campaign, ten lakh TB patients have been adopted by the common citizens. PM Modi mentioned that even 10-12-year-old children are taking forward the fight against TB by becoming Ni-kshay Mitra. Many such children broke their piggy banks and adopted TB patients, and the financial support of these Ni-kshay friends for TB patients has reached above one thousand crore rupees.

Awards for states, Union Territories, and districts for progress toward ending tuberculosis

PM Modi awarded selected states, Union Territories, and districts for their progress toward ending tuberculosis. The recipients of the awards were Karnataka and Jammu and Kashmir at the state and Union Territory levels and the Nilgiris, Pulwama, and Anantnag at the district level.

Launch of several initiatives to fight tuberculosis

PM Modi launched several initiatives to fight tuberculosis, including TB-free panchayats, pan-India rollout of a shorter TB Preventive Treatment (TPT), and a family-centric care model for tuberculosis. He also released India’s Annual TB Report for 2023.

Foundation stone laid for BSL Laboratory

Lastly, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of the National Centre for Disease Control and High Containment (BSL) Laboratory and unveiled the site for the Metropolitan Public Health Surveillance Unit (MSU). These initiatives will help India fight against tuberculosis and enhance the country’s health infrastructure.
