Government has created a draught National Air Sports Policy (NASP 2022) for encouraging air sports in India, according to Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Gen. Dr. V K Singh.
Concerning the Proposed National Air Sports Policy
The policy aims to make India a global centre for air sports.
Aerobatics, amateur-built and experimental aircraft, aeromodelling, drones, ballooning, gliding, paragliding micro-lighting & para-motoring skydiving, hang gliding, and vintage aircraft will all be covered.
Aim of the Policy
By 2030, the policy aims to make India one of the top air sports nations in the world. Its objective is to create a countrywide air sports ecosystem that is safe, accessible, inexpensive, exciting, and sustainable. It aims to take advantage of India’s enormous potential for air sports as a result of its diversified topography, geographical vastness, and pleasant weather.
Air Sports Federation of India (ASFI)
ASFI shall be designated as the apex governing body under the policy. It will manage the day-to-day operations of each air sport’s association. For instance, the Indian Skydiving Association, the Indian Paragliding Association, and so on. Air Sports Associations will be held accountable to ASFI for ensuring that each specific air sport is conducted in a safe, inexpensive, accessible, fun, and sustainable manner. It will represent India in the FAI and other international air sports forums.
Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI)
The FAI, based in Lausanne, Switzerland, is the world governing body for air sports. All competitions in India will be held in compliance with the FAI’s criteria.
Penal Penalties
If an air sports association fails to implement safety requirements, ASFI will take disciplinary action against them, including financial penalties, dismissal, or suspension.
Air Sports Equipment Subject to GST
In order to make air sports more accessible to the general people, the government will ask the GST Council to explore lowering the GST rate on air sports equipment to 5% or less.
