ट्रेन चलाने की ट्रेनिंग लेने के बाद सहायक पायलट के पद पर नियुक्ति मिलती है। मालगाड़ी चलाने के बाद सहायक लोको पायलट को पैसेंजर ट्रेन में लोको पायलट की देखरेख में ट्रेन चलाने का प्रशिक्षण मिलता है। कुछ समय बाद ट्रेन चलाने का अनुभव लेने के बाद स्वतंत्र रूप से ट्रेन चलाने की अनुमति मिल जाती है।
