Highlights:

• The city will be the first in the country to use all-digital buses with “Tap in and Tap out” capabilities.
• These buses are launched exclusively for those, who are traveling cash less
• 20 buses will be introduced on office going routes

The first bus, which will run from CSMT to NCPA, was tested recently and the testing was finished. It will have a smartcard reader and a mobile app (Chalo).

Overview

A passenger just boards the bus, flashes his phone or smartcard in front of the digital machine near the entrance, and receives a green tick allowing him to board. He taps out when he gets off the bus, and the bus fare is deducted from his app or smartcard

These buses will be marked with the words ‘Digital Bus’ at the entry and will be available to cashless passengers. BEST general manager Lokesh Chandra said that twenty such buses will be launched on office-going routes soon, and that more buses will be introduced progressively across the island city and suburbs.
