Swimmer Maana Patel register as “Best Indian Time” by beating her won previous time

Indian Olympian Maana Patel has set the ‘Best Indian time’ in the women’s 100m backstroke event at the Canet leg of Mare Nostrum swimming meet in France.

Broke own best record

The 22-year-old swimmer Maana Patel from Gujarat, had competed at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, at 01:03.69, improving her personal best record on May 29 night, which was the final day of the competition. She was the only Indian female swimmer to participate and represent India in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

Previous best record is also of Maana

Maana had previously set the previous ‘Best Indian time’ of 01:03.77 in the event, which she had set in Belgrade in 2022.
At the meet, Maana qualified 15th overall to qualify for the ‘B’ final, where she finished with a timing of 01:03:87.

Who is Meena Patel?

Maana Patel was born on March 8 in 2000, is an Indian backstroke swimmer from Ahmedabad. She has studied commerce at Ahemdabad’s Udgam School for Children. She was coached and trained by Mr. Kamlesh Nanavati at the Gujarat Vidyapeeth Swimming Centre. She is presently being trained and coached by Peter Carswell at the Glenmark Aquatic Foundation in Mumbai.

When timing is considered as national record

In swimming, a timing is considered as national record when it has been achieved at the National Aquatic Championships. Hence, the timings clocked in other meets are called the ‘Best Indian time’.
