Shubham Gill, an Indian batsman, has broken captain Rohit Sharma’s record by becoming the country’s youngest player to score a century in international cricket on Zimbabwean soil.

Gill, who is 22 years and 348 days old, smashed a century in the third ODI of the ongoing Zimbabwe tour in Harare on August 22. He broke the record set by Rohit Sharma, who scored a century against Zimbabwe when he was 23 years and 28 days old.

First international century of career

It was Shubhman Gill’s first international century of his career. He was on the verge of recording his first century before the weather intervened. Cricket legends Irfan Pathan and Ian Bishop congratulated the youngster on his first century on Twitter.

In the third ODI, Indian captain KL Rahul won the toss and chose to bat first. A superb century by Shubman Gill and a half-century by Ishan Kishan propelled India to 289/8 at the end of their 50 overs against Zimbabwe on Monday in Harare.

Brad Evans was the pick of the hosts’ bowlers, dismissing five Indian batsmen and recording figures of 5/54 in 10 overs. Jongwe and Nyauchi each got one wicket.

Brief Scores: India 289/8 (Shubman Gill 130, Ishan Kishan 50, Brad Evans 5/54) against Zimbabwe.
