Odisha is building India’s largest hockey stadium in Rourkela for the World Cup in 2023

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik laid the foundation stone of the country’s largest hockey stadium in Sundergarh district. The stadium is named after the famous freedom fighter Birsa Munda. This stadium will be completely ready by October 2022. There will be matches of the Men’s Hockey World Cup to be held in January 2023.

World Cup Hockey will be held from 13 to 29 January

After the stupendous success of the Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018, Odisha is all set to host the Men’s Hockey World Cup in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela from January 13 to 29 next year.

15000 people seating arrangement in Kalinga

Hockey Stadium The existing Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar has been upgraded which has a seating capacity of 15,000 people. Odisha government is also building a new hockey stadium- ‘Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium’ in Rourkela.

Country’s largest hockey stadium

This hockey stadium being built in Odisha has a seating capacity of 20,000 people. This will be the biggest hockey stadium in India. The stadium is named after freedom fighter ‘Birsa Munda’.

24 hours stadium work going on

A workforce of over 250 engineers, designers and laborers is working round the clock to prepare the stadium. It will be ready by October this year.

Design inspired by the Colosseum

This Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium will have all modern hockey facilities designed to host the Hockey World Cup. The design is inspired by the Colosseum.

Stadium being built with Rs 3000 crore

Officials said the Rs 300 crore stadium (Rs 200 crore stadium + 100 crore other facilities) will also have state-of-the-art facilities, a tunnel connecting changing rooms and a fitness center and a practice pitch with a hydro-therapy pool.

The spectators will be closer to the pitch at this stadium than any other hockey stadium in the world. That is, the thrill of watching the match in this stadium.
