CSK Announcement
“MS Dhoni has opted to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings and has chosen Ravindra Jadeja to lead the squad,” CSK announced on March 24th in a statement.
According to the statement, it was Dhoni who chose Jadeja as his replacement. Jadeja has also been with CSK for a long time, joining the yellow brigade in 2012 for around Rs 9.8 crore, making him the most expensive purchase of that auction.
“Jadeja, who has been a key member of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will be the team’s third captain. This season and beyond, Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings “The CSK said
Since the inaugural season of the IPL in 2008, Dhoni has led the four-time champions
Dhoni, popularly known as Thala (the leader) by CSK fans, has won four IPL titles in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021. He is the second-most successful captain in the history of the IPL. Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Mumbai Indians, leads the list with five titles.
Last season, CSK won their fourth title, defeating the Kolkata Knight Riders in the final. CSK and MS Dhoni have been associated over the years, and Dhoni has a sizable fan base in Tamil Nadu as a result of his lengthy relationship with CSK. The only two seasons during which Dhoni did not play for CSK were the two seasons during which the club was suspended.
On March 26, CSK will face Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2022 season opener. Dhoni confirmed his retirement from international cricket after the 2019 World Cup.
