Jay Shah: Greg Barclay of New Zealand will be replaced as the next Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) by Jai Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Shah was elected to this role without facing any opposition, and his term will start on December 1, 2024. Shah will be the ICC’s youngest Chairman ever at the age of 35. At a young age, he has accomplished a number of noteworthy milestones and is now well-positioned to assume leadership of cricket operations worldwide.
The Journey Began in 2009
The son of major BJP leader Amit Shah and Union Home Minister Jay Shah, he joined the cricket scene in 2009 when he started serving as an executive member of the Central Board of Cricket in Ahmedabad. He never looked back after that. He was named Joint Secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) in September 2013, working with his father, who was the GCA President at the time.
Entry into BCCI
Jay Shah first worked as a member of the Finance and Marketing Committee of the BCCI in 2015. Later, in October 2019, he was elected as the youngest Secretary of the BCCI. During this time, he worked closely with Sourav Ganguly. One of his major achievements as BCCI Secretary was selling the IPL media rights for ₹48,390 crore for five years in 2022. With this change, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is now the second most valuable sports league globally, behind the National Football League (NFL), in terms of per-match value.

Recognizing his leadership skills, Shah was entrusted with this responsibility once again in January 2024. In November 2022, Shah became the head of the ICC’s powerful Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee. Additionally, he played a crucial role in including cricket in events like the Commonwealth Games.
