BWF world championship: Satvik- Chirag become first indian men’s double pair to secure medal



Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy made history on August 26 when they became the first Indian men’s pair to win a medal at the BWF World Championships after defeating Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi of Japan in the quarterfinals.

The Indian duo won the match 24-22, 15-21, 21-14 on court 2.

The first game was exciting and closely contested, but Chirag and Satwik won 24-22.

Shetty and Chirag were back to their best in the final round, outplaying the Japanese 21-14 and securing their semifinal spot.

India’s 2nd medal at the championship

It will also be India’s second medal from a doubles pair at the Championships.

The pair earned India its 13th medal at the prestigious event.

Chirag and Satwiksairaj advanced to the quarterfinals on August 25 after defeating Denmark’s J. Bay and L. Molhede in the round of 16.

It only took them 35 minutes to eliminate their Danish opponents from the competition in two straight games, 21-12, 21-10.

Duo previously won gold in Commonwealth Games

Chirag and Satwik previously won a gold medal in the men’s doubles category at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.

In the finals, they defeated England’s Ben Lane and Sean Vendy 21-15, 21-13.

The BWF World Championships 2022 began on August 22 in Tokyo and will end on August 28.
