The All India Chess Federation (AICF) has declared that the 44th World Chess Olympiad will be held in Chennai in 2022.
“It’s official now….India will host the 44th World Chess Olympiad 2022 at Chennai!!” posted AICF on Twitter.

Chess Olympiad and other tournaments moved away from Russia

After the International Chess Federation (FIDE) moved the Chess Olympiad and all other official tournaments away from Russia due to their military operations in Ukraine, India bid to host the tournament.
The 2022 Chess Olympiad was intended to run from July 26 to August 8. The first chess Olympiad for individuals with impairments, as well as the 93rd FIDE Congress, have been moved out of Russia.

MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Said

MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, expressed his delight at the achievement, calling it a “glorious moment.”
“I am ecstatic that India’s Chess Capital will host the 44th Chess Olympiad!” Tamil Nadu can be proud of this! MK Stalin tweeted, “Chennai gladly welcomes all the Kings and Queens from throughout the world!”
After the World Championship match in 2013, the 44th Chess Olympiad in 2022 will be the country’s second big international tournament.

Schedule of the event

“The exact schedule is still being discussed and will be announced in the coming days, but the event will take place between the end of July and the beginning of August, not very far off from the dates originally planned,” FIDE said.
