Problems do not come into anyone’s life by telling them in advance. But these difficult situations teach people how to stay patient. IAS Ummul Kher is one of those individuals who faced numerous challenges as a child but did not let them deter her from following her dreams.
Ummul Kher, a resident of Pali, Rajasthan, has been differently abled since childhood. Whereas others were concerned about her ability to complete her education, the determined woman became an IAS officer by passing the civil services exam.
A life full of fractures and surgeries
Ummul Kher comes from an impoverished Marwar family in Pali, Rajasthan. She has a condition known as Bone Fragility Disorder. The bones of the body weaken as a result of this disorder. Ummul’s bones were frequently broken as a result of the disorder. In her life, she has had 16 fractures and eight surgeries.
House was demolished in childhood
Ummul lives with her parents and three siblings. Her father and family began living in a slum in Delhi’s Nizamuddin neighbourhood when she was very young. Her father used to be a clothing salesman. The government then ordered that the slums be demolished. Her family was forced to relocate, and they began living in the Trilokpuri slum.
Ummul Kher’s family’s financial situation was precarious. She began teaching tuition in class 7th to support her family and pay her school fees. Her mother passed awar when she was in ninth grade.
Her father remarried after her mother died. Ummul’s stepmother did not approve of her attending school. Ummul was unable to abandon her studies, so she left home and began living alone.
Was always a bright student
Ummul received 91% in 10th grade and 90% in 12th grade. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Gargi College, Delhi University. After that, he earned an MA and an MPhil from JNU’s School of International Studies. She was chosen for Japan’s International Leadership Training Program in 2014. Ummul was the fourth Indian chosen for this position. Ummul cleared JRF after her MPhil, and her financial situation improved from there.
Ummul Kher created her own life
She not only faced financial difficulties, but she also became estranged from her family. She chose her own path and set a good example for everyone by becoming an IAS.
During her JRF, she began preparing for the UPSC exam and achieved 420th rank in her first attempt at the CSE 2016 exam.
