ZOMATO IS INTRODUCING “100% PLASTIC-FREE DELIVERIES.” THIS IS WHAT IT ENTAILS

Zomato said today that it will recycle more than 100 percent of all plastic used in meal delivery packaging. Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal announced in a post on Twitter that the meal delivery platform will begin delivering “100% plastic neutral deliveries” today.

“From now on, every meal you order through Zomato will be 100 percent plastic neutral,” the food delivery platform announced. “This means we will voluntarily recycle more than 100 percent of all plastic used in your order’s packaging.”

Partnered with ISO-certified plastic waste management organizations

To collect and recycle plastic garbage across India, Zomato has worked with ISO-certified plastic waste management organisations.

According to Deepinder Goyal, Zomato will assist reduce the restaurant industry’s plastic footprint over the next three years.

Zomato’s goal of making food delivery more sustainable and eco-friendly includes plastic-free deliveries.

“We took our first move toward long-term sustainability last year when we launched ‘Climate Conscious Delivery,’ in which we began sponsoring local environmental programmes to offset the carbon footprint of all our deliveries and packaging in India,” the company claimed. “Tonnes of single-use plastic” were prevented from entering landfills by making “no cutlery required” the default choice for all deliveries.

However, Zomato admitted that offsetting emissions generated during the manufacturing of new plastic packaging did not solve the problem of wasted plastic ending up in landfills and cluttering waterways, which is where plastic neutral delivery came in.
