Vistara, which is owned by Tata and Singapore Airlines, finished second in domestic market share for July 2022, a first since the airline began operations in January 2015. According to DGCA data, the airline with a 10.4 percent market share carried 1.01 million passengers last month, despite the fact that overall domestic passenger traffic fell by 7.7 percent. Domestic air passenger traffic was 9.7 million in July, down from 10.5 million in June.
Vistara and another Tata-owned airline, Air India, were among the only carriers to transport more passengers in July than in June. In July, Air India carried 0.8 million passengers, up from 0.7 million in June, and increased its market share to 8.4 percent from 7.5 percent.
The combined market share of Tata Group, Air India, Vistara, and AirAsia was 23.4 percent.
IndiGo maintained its number one position
IndiGo maintained its number one position in the domestic airline market, with a 58.8 percent share, despite a 2.5 lakh drop in total passengers ferried.
SpiceJet claimed the top spot in terms of occupancy with 84.7 percent, followed by Vistara with 84.3 percent. However, SpiceJet’s passenger volume fell to 0.8 million from one million the previous month.
Tata Group airlines dominated the best on-time performance in four metro areas: Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, capturing three of the top five spots. Air Asia took the top spot with 95.5 percent, followed by Vistara with 89 percent, Go First with 84.1 percent, Air India with 83 percent, and SpiceJet with 82.1 percent. IndiGo, the market leader, appeared to be lagging behind with an OTP of 80.8 percent.
Meanwhile, the government has announced the removal of airfare price caps imposed in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. The elimination of the price cap will take effect on August 31. Civil Aviation
