Orissa based ‘Mo Bus’ transport service honored with prestigious United Nations Public Service Award



An Odisha-based public transport service is among the 10 global initiates honored with a prestigious United Nations award on June 22 for their role and efforts in helping the world recover better from COVID-19. Mo Bus, Capital Region Urban Transport India is the recipient of the prestigious UN Public Service Awards, the global organization announced.

At a virtual ceremony held by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs on June 22, ten initiatives from Brazil, Canada, India, Ireland, Panama, Philippines, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and Ukraine were honoured for their creative public service delivery with the prestigious UN Public Service Awards.

Awards recognize 10 innovations to help the world recover from COVID-19

The winning initiatives assist conserve life below the ocean’s surface, boost gender equality, and keep children safe. The awards highlight 10 inventions that will aid in the world’s ability to recover from COVID-19. 

During a virtual celebration of United Nations Public Service Day, Liu Zhenmin revealed the recipients of the 2022 UN Public Service Award, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs.

It is known that Bhubaneswar Puri Transport Services was founded in 2010 with the goal of managing and running bus services on intra-city and inter-city routes in Bhubaneswar as well as between Bhubaneshwar, Puri, Cuttack, and Khurda. With the goal of reorganising the public transit services in the city, BPTS evolved over time into Capital Region Urban Transport, often known as CRUT, on May 4, 2018.

Winners implemented solutions to provide services to people and advance SDGs 

A fishing village in Thailand using drone technology to save life below water; community centers in Brazil keeping children off the streets; transparent electronic public auction systems in Ukraine; and the implementation of equal pay for women and people from disadvantaged communities in Canada – these are just some of the bold innovations honored at this year’s event. All of this year’s winners have implemented new solutions to provide services to people while advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The best responses to the COVID-19 pandemic made use of ICTs and digital government, showcasing the adaptability and creativity of public institutions under pressure. The Sustainable Development Goals can be achieved by promoting efficacy, openness, and inclusivity in public service delivery, which is recognised by the UN Public Service Awards.
