Under DigiYatra, Hyderabad International Airport begins digital passenger processing

The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad will begin digital passenger processing as a proof of concept through the DigiYatra platform on August 18 for three months, according to a press release issued by the GMR Hyderabad International Airport on August 16.

DigiYatra will enable paperless travel and avoid multiple identity checks at the airport, resulting in a smooth and hassle-free journey.

Facial recognition system

Passengers will be automatically processed using a facial recognition system at two checkpoints: one at the Departure Domestic Entry Gate 3 and another at the Security Hold Area (SHA) in the passenger terminal building, according to DigiYatra. The DigiYatra Technical Team has created an exclusive enrolment mobile app. It stated that passengers must download this app to take advantage of the DigiYatra program’s benefits.

According to Pradeep Panicker, CEO of GHIAL, the Digiyatra initiative aims to provide airline passengers with a quick, hassle-free, digitally unified air travel experience at all stages of the journey. “It is a milestone in the history of Indian aviation, and we are proud to be chosen as one of the airports for a proof of concept for Digi Yatra by the Government of India. GHIAL had earlier initiated face recognition trials which received wide acclaim across the airport ecosystem. This technology will enable passengers a paperless journey, and they will be able to use a face scan as a boarding pass,” he said.
