• India’s first portable rooftop solar in Gandhinagar
• Inaugurated on 18 April at the Swaminarayan Akshardham temple complex
The country’s first portable solar rooftop system was unveiled at Gandhinagar’s Swaminarayan Akshardham temple complex.
The German development agency Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) financed the installation of 10 PV Port systems in the temple complex, according to a statement.
The devices were constructed as part of an effort coordinated by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to build renewable energy cities across India.
The PV port system is conventional plug and play solar system
The PV Port systems, developed by GIZ, are standard plug-and-play photovoltaic systems with a minimum capacity of 2 kWp that can be ordered with or without battery storage.
The PV Ports were created by New Delhi-based Servotech Power Systems Ltd (SPSL), a leading manufacturer of high-end solar products such as LEDs, oxygen concentrators, and EV charging equipment as part of the Make in India initiative.
“The innovative PV Port system paves the way for greater solar power adoption in the country,” said Raman Bhatia, founder and Managing Director of Servotech Power Systems Ltd.
It is supposed to be completely self-sufficient, with no power being fed into the grid
Unlike other traditional solar PV systems, the PV Port system’s design makes use of the area beneath the panels. Each system saves an average of Rs 24,000 per year on electricity expenditures.
