The Uttar Pradesh government will organise a massive cleanliness drive covering 750 civic bodies in 75 districts for 75 hours beginning December 1 under the Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban.
The government intends to convert ‘garbage vulnerable points’ —’sensitive sites’ in terms of garbage collection in approximately 750 civic bodies — into clean places as part of the campaign.
The Municipal Directorate of the Swachh Bharat Mission has written to all municipal commissioners, requesting that they complete the campaign within the time frame specified.
All municipal governments are expected to re-mark all “garbage vulnerable points” in their respective areas, and such locations will be permanently eliminated from December 1 to December 3.
Garbage collected from these sites will be separated into wet and dry waste, which will be treated and disposed of separately.
Selfie points to be developed
The cleaned areas will also be beautified, with many being developed as “selfie points.” Officials have also been directed to keep track of collections of plastic, bottle, and glass waste. The government has also directed officials to ensure videography of the activities.
Best to be awarded
The best performing civic bodies under the campaign will be rewarded at the state level under five sub-categories based on population in three main categories — municipal corporation, municipal council and nagar panchayat. The winning bodies in each category will be presented as models.
