A Smart 24×7 Water Supply Project is launched at Cheran Nagar in Kavundampalayam by Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation(CCMC).

According to CCMC, this is the first IoT based water supply project and is funded by government of India’s Department of Science & Technology – Water Technology Initiative( DST-WTI).

Who had the idea

This Smart Water Supply Project was developed by a Professor of PSG College of Technology and executed by CCMC along with SMINT TIQ Pvt Ltd. 1800 houses will be benefited by this water supply project. 400 houses will be cover at first phase. Each house will be supplied with 675 litres of water in a day. The smart water supply project would be expanded to other areas in the city depending on the response from public.

How the system will be implemented

The system is implemented through 5 DMAs (Distribution Metering Area) where 1800 houses will receive an equal amount of water. The distributed water quality is monitored by Water Quality Analyzer(WQA) panel at each stage. These panels can be controlled using a smart phone application from any location.

Option in need for more amount of water

The residents can use the 675 litres of water at one go or in installments in a 24 hours period. once the allotted amount is supplied the system will be cut off. If the residents needs extra water on some occasions then they can contact in advance and they can get extra 300 litres. but they will be charged on the extra water they took.
