‘SHOONYA CAMPAIGN’: AN INITIATIVE TO PROMOTE ZERO EMISSION DELIVERY VEHICLES

Pollution is a major threat to a nation. Considering the rising issue of air pollution, a great deal of emphasis is being focused on the adoption of electric vehicles in the country. With this, the Central Government’s think tank, Niti Aayog has launched a new campaign called ‘Shoonya’. It is an initiative to promote zero-emission delivery vehicles to lessen the threat of air pollution.

Moto of ‘Shoonya Campaign’

According to the statement, the goal of the ‘Shoonya’ campaign is to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the urban deliveries market and raise customer awareness about the benefits of zero-pollution delivery.

What will be done under this campaign?

A corporate branding and certification scheme will be established as part of the campaign to recognize and promote the industry’s efforts to switch to EVs for final-mile delivery. An online tracking platform will be established to communicate the campaign’s effect through statistics such as electrified vehicle kilometers, carbon savings, criteria pollutant savings and other benefits from clean delivery vehicles.

‘Shoonya’ aims at spreading awareness

NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant stated, “We will spread awareness about the health, environment, and economic benefits of electric vehicles through the Shoonya campaign.” I would like to encourage E-commerce firms, vehicle manufacturers, and logistics fleet operators to see the possibility to remove pollution from the urban freight sector. I am certain that our vibrant private sector will rise to the challenge of making Shoonya a huge success.”

Various companies participated in the meeting

Nearly 30 businesses attended the kick-off meeting, which was led by Niti Aayog. Some of them were – Tata Motors, Zomato, Mahindra Electric, Ashok Leyland, Sun Mobility, Lightning Logistics, Big Basket, Bluedart, Hero Electric, and Swiggy.
