International Day of Girl Child 2022: Our time is now- our rights, our future



International Girl Child Day is celebrated every year on 11 October. The day focuses on the challenges faced by the girl child and the need to promote the empowerment of girls and the fulfillment of their human rights. The first International Day of the Girl Child was celebrated on 11 October 2012, which was officially announced by the United Nations General Assembly.

Purpose of Celebrating International Girl Child Day

The purpose of celebrating International Girl Child Day is to highlight the inequalities faced by girls, raise awareness on many topics like their rights, their education etc. That is, the main objective of celebrating this day is to make girls aware of their rights of the country. Raising awareness of gender discrimination along with daughters to make society aware of this gender discrimination. Awareness programs are organized on this day all over India.

Apart from this, the main objective of celebrating International Girl Child Day is to create awareness about the challenges faced by women and the protection of their rights. The importance of this day is also because it eliminates gender-based challenges and these challenges are faced by girls all over the world, which include child marriage, discrimination and violence against them. Today the best gift we can give to a girl child is education, it is indeed the best gift for a girl child.

Theme of International Day of the Child 2022

This year’s theme is “Our time is now—our rights, our future”. If we see today, we will find that daughters are not less than sons in any field. That’s why we should be as proud of our daughters as we are to our sons. We must focus on the need to educate the girl child, their empowerment and promote the fulfillment of their human rights. Girls around the world are facing unprecedented challenges for their education, their physical and mental health and the necessary protections. Together we all have to make the entire society aware to eliminate gender inequalities with girls in the society so that girls can get their due rights in the society.

Schemes Launched by The Government of India

It is true that the Government of India is also paying attention to the challenges faced by the girl child and the government has also implemented many schemes to empower the girl child, which are as follows –

Beti Bachao And Beti Padhao” Scheme
“Beti Bachao Aur Beti Padhao” is a remarkable scheme. The main objective of the scheme is to ensure the safety of the girl child. Also its aim is to provide education to every girl child in the country.

Balika Samriddhi Yojana
Apart from this Balika Samridhi Yojana, this government scheme for girls, is for birth in BPL families. In this scheme, a grant of Rs 500 is given after birth. The main objective of this scheme is to change the negative attitude of the people towards the girl child and her mother at the time of birth.

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana
This scheme is a savings deposit scheme. The objective of this scheme is to enable the parents to complete the education of the girl child as well as meet her marriage expenses.

Apart from this there is also CBSE Merit Scholarship Scheme for Single Girl Child. Another scheme is the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya Yojana which aims at providing free residential school to the educationally backward people at the upper primary level. Many such schemes are started by the government in the interest of the girl child.
