An Indian Air Force (IAF) Chinook heavy-lift chopper has set a new flight record by flying nonstop from Chandigarh to Jorhat (Assam) in India.
“The 1910-kilometer trip was completed in 7 hours 30 minutes it was all possible because of Chinook’s capabilities, as well as the IAF’s operational preparation and execution,” a representative for the IAF’s 
Western Air Command stated.

All about Chinook heavy-lift chopper

The Chinook is a multi-purpose vertical lift platform that transports men and cargo. It also contributes significantly to humanitarian and disaster relief efforts. “Rapid mobility will allow the IAF to use this asset to its full potential as needed,” the official stated.

At a ceremony held at Air Force Station Chandigarh on March 25, 2019, the Indian Air Force formally inducted the CH-47 (F) I Chinook heavy-lift helicopter into its inventory.

The contract

In September 2015, the IAF inked a contract with Boeing Limited for the delivery of 15 Chinook helicopters. These have arrived in Chandigarh and the North East, where they will be deployed.

The helicopter was modified to meet the IAF’s future needs and capability roadmap. It boasts a digital cockpit management system that is completely integrated, sophisticated cargo handling capabilities, and an electronic warfare suite.
