Dwarka Expressway: On 11 March 2024, PM Narendra Modi officially opened the Dwarka Expressway that links Delhi to Gurugram. What is special about Dwarka Expressway?
The country is constructing its first single-pillar expressway, covering a distance of 29 kilometres and costing around Rs 9000 crore. It will have 8 lanes. Prime Minister Modi has inaugurated the initial 19-kilometre section in Haryana for public use. The part in Delhi will be 10.1 kilometres long and is expected to be completed by June. This expressway is unique as it is built on a single pillar, with a 34-meter-wide road in Haryana and a 10.1-kilometer-long road in Delhi.
What will be the impact of the expressway?
The new expressway linking Sectors 88, 83, 84, 99, and 113 in Gurugram with Dwarka Sector-21 in Delhi is expected to have a positive impact. It will enhance connectivity and lead to development in the surrounding areas. This project is anticipated to benefit a large number of people in Gurugram, connecting over 20 colonies directly and being close to more than 10 villages.
How much will the traffic jam be reduced?
The new expressway will make it easier to travel between Gurugram and Delhi’s IGI Airport. Currently, there is traffic on the route from Gurugram to the airport through NH-48, but the expressway will provide a smooth journey without any delays. People travelling from Delhi to Jaipur often face traffic jams at the Sarhaul border, but with the expressway, they will experience less congestion and reduce pressure on the National Highway.
