DRDO confirms successful trials of enhanced range Pinaka rockets in Pokhran and Balasore

Trials of the Made-in-India enhanced Pinaka Rockets have been completed successfully at Balasore and Pokhran in recent weeks, according to officials from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

The system’s manufacturers, Munitions India Ltd and Economic Explosives Limited, met user requirements at the end of the trials, the DRDO announced August 29.

Another step in the direction of government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative

According to the officials, this is another step in the direction of the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative in the defence sector.

“The user trials of the DRDO-developed Range Pinka rockets were conducted at Balasore and Pokharan over the past few weeks. In a success for Make in India in defence, the manufacturers including Munitions India Ltd and Economic Explosives Ltd met the user requirements at the completion of the trials,” the defence officials said.

DRDO also confirmed earlier this May that trials of the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) were successfully completed at Pokhran Field Firing Range (PFFR).

ATAGS

ATAGS is a fully indigenous towed artillery gun system project undertaken in mission mode by DRDO as part of the Indian Army’s artillery modernization programme.

The DRDO developed the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS), which was manufactured by two companies, Bharat Forge and Tata Advanced Systems Limited.

The gun is expected to be the mainstay of the Indian Army’s tower howitzer fleet and may also be used to replace the Bofors howitzers.
